How to clean the EGR valve and EGR cooler on Ram 1500?Posted by Customer
- A:
For the first 60,000-mile interval in specific states, Dodge dealers perform EGR valve cleaning at no cost. To clean the EGR valve on diesel models, remove it along with the EGR valve motor and shim, then disassemble the valve components, including the keeper retainer, keepers, and valve spring. Clean the valve housing surfaces and other areas with a plastic scrub brush and soak the assembly in a solution of Mopar EGR system cleaner and water. Rinse, dry, and reassemble the valve components before installation. For EGR cooler cleaning on 6.4L HEMI and diesel models, disconnect battery cables, drain the cooling system, and remove various components like the air filter housing, turbo outlet tube, alternator, and more to access the cooler. Remove the EGR cooler and discard the gasket, then clean it with hot tap water and a cleaning solution. Rinse, dry, and reinstall with a new gasket. Finally, reset the “Emissions System Service Required” light by following a specific procedure involving the accelerator pedal and key positions without starting the engine.
