To set the camshaft timing, you should rotate the engine in a clockwise direction until the “V6” or “VB” marks on the camshaft sprockets are in the 12 o’clock position. Apply alignment marks to the secondary timing chain links on both camshaft sprockets.

Avoid using pliers to remove lifters unless they are being replaced, as this can damage them.

Hold the camshaft sprockets with a spanner wrench and loosen the sprocket bolts, retightening them by hand until snug. If the sprockets rotate, realign them to the 12 o’clock position.

Next, you should remove the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor and then remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts to detach the sprockets from the camshaft hubs.
